Fractional CHRO and HR on Call

A fractional HR executive for your small business, from $500 a month.

Luman Group in Long Branch, New Jersey, puts Meghan Davey, SPHR, a 20-year HR executive, on your team by the month. Why owners need this

You don't have HR. So who do you call when something goes wrong?

Most small businesses run fine until the moment they don't. Those moments are where the lawsuits come from, and they're exactly when searching online isn't good enough. HR on Call puts a 20-year HR executive on your team before the problem starts.

  1. 01

"An employee just told me they're pregnant and asked what they're entitled to."

One call. You find out exactly what you're legally required to do, and what you must not say, before you accidentally create a discrimination claim.

  2. 02

"I need to let someone go and I'm terrified of getting sued."

We walk you through the conversation and review the separation agreement before you sign anything, so the termination is clean, documented and defensible.

  3. 03

"A harassment complaint just landed on my desk."

You're legally on the clock the moment you know. We tell you what you're required to do, help you respond the right way, and keep you out of the territory of having ignored it.

  4. 04

"A former employee is claiming we owe them overtime."

Guidance on where you actually stand and how to respond, before it turns into a Department of Labor problem you didn't see coming.

  5. 05

"We're hiring fast and our offer letters and classifications are guesswork."

Reviewed before they go out, so you're not building tomorrow's liability into today's hires. Misclassification and bad offer terms are some of the most expensive mistakes a small employer makes.

What you get

Exactly what a retainer puts in your corner, every month.

  1. Direct access to Meghan and her team

Call, text or email whenever something comes up, with a same or next business day response. When the fire alarm goes off, you reach a real person who has handled it before.

  2. Advisory time every month

Bring your situations, your decisions, and your "can I actually do this?" questions. Real guidance on your real people.

  3. Document review before it goes out

Offer letters, terminations, warnings, policies and agreements, reviewed so the problem gets caught before it's signed or sent.

  4. The high-risk moments, handled with you

Terminations, harassment complaints, accommodation requests and investigations. The exact situations that turn into claims, walked through with someone who has done it.

  5. The full template library, included

Every kit, guide and tool, kept current as the law changes, is built into your retainer at no extra cost.

  6. Member rates on bigger work

If a matter needs a full workplace investigation or a larger project, you get member pricing instead of standard rates.

Hourly and shift teams

Most HR advice was written for office jobs.

Healthcare, senior living, home care, hospitality and retail run on shift workers. There, HR means turnover, overtime, scheduling and the 6 a.m. call-out. Meghan has led HR for these teams for 20 years, including 139 senior living communities, and she co-owns a healthcare staffing company today.

$80,000 to $110,000

What a full-time HR manager costs a year, loaded. A true CHRO costs far more.

$6,000 a year

What HR on Call from Luman Group costs at $500 a month. Fractional HR is $18,000 a year.

Tens of thousands

What defending a single employment claim routinely costs, even when you win.

Before you book

Is this you, or isn't it?

Meghan would rather lose a call than take a company she is wrong for. Read both lists honestly.

This is you if

  • You run a team of hourly or shift workers, from about 15 people to a few hundred.
  • Turnover, call-outs or overtime are eating into your margin.
  • HR lives with you, your office manager or your controller, none of whom signed up for it.
  • You've recently had a moment where you weren't sure something was legal.
  • You want someone accountable for the function, and more than a stack of forms.

This isn't you if

  • You already have a full-time HR manager doing the job well.
  • You want the cheapest handbook and nothing else. The template library is the better buy.
  • You're in active litigation. You need an employment attorney first, and Meghan will refer you.
  • You're shopping for payroll processing or benefits brokerage.
Questions

How the retainer works.

Read every question and answer

How fast will you respond?

Same or next business day for On Call, with priority response for Fractional HR. If something is truly urgent, like a termination tomorrow or a complaint today, reach out and we will make it work.

What if I go over my hours?

We flag it before you do, so there are no surprise invoices. Extra time is billed at your member rate, or you move up a tier if you are consistently using more.

How is this different from just buying the templates?

The templates give you the documents. HR on Call gives you the documents and a person, someone to call when a template is not enough and you need judgment on your specific situation. The full template library is included in every retainer.

Is there a long contract?

Retainers run month to month after a short initial term, and you can cancel with notice. The goal is to be worth keeping, not to lock you in.

Is this legal advice?

No. It is HR guidance from a 20-year HR executive, not legal advice. When a matter genuinely needs an attorney, we tell you plainly and can refer vetted employment counsel.

Do you replace my payroll company or my PEO?

No. Payroll processes payroll, and a PEO (a professional employer organization) handles benefits and admin. Neither tells you whether a termination is a lawsuit, or whether your manager is owed overtime. Luman Group is the HR judgment over whatever you already have.

What if I only need one project done?

That is fine. Handbook rebuilds, classification audits, pay reviews and workplace investigations all run as standalone projects. Tell us what you need and we will quote it, with no retainer required.
